RISKS - Arising Political Factors

Catalonia is still fiercely fighting for their independence from Spain.

The political state in which Catalonia still stands may put me in harm's way if I'm not careful. I'm not well versed in the full story of Catalonia's politics, nor have had any experience with present-time protests and activism. I may say something that triggers an argument and my obliviousness might land me into some trouble.

If I was to engage in conversations with locals and ask about these issues, the probability of misunderstanding, and maybe even conflict, could be quite moderate.

As I have never visited Catalonia and would be a tourist, some may mistake my questioning to be insensitive.

In order to manage or minimise these risks, I could research locations that are prone to political protests. Furthermore, to avoid the temptation of getting involved in something I have no business getting involved in, I'd familiarise myself with the transport services I could use to exit political situations. Also, reminding myself to think before I speak would be one way to minimise this risk as I’ve been told I have no filter and I really do say the first thing that comes to mind.

The seemingly high tension between just the locals in Catalonia, makes me feel uneasy and anxious as to what to expect.

As a tourist looking to enjoy myself, creating distance from a situation escalation, especially something I would not know how to navigate, would most likely be my best bet.
