Reflection

As the first assignment of FoDR, Module 1 was an exploration of perspective and representation.
The process of turning photographs of a single croissant into orthographic and axonometric drawings, was both incredibly satisfying and insightful.
My favourite part of this assignment was the opportunity to hone in on different sets of skills. It challenged me to not only utilise my hand drawing skills but to expand on my photography skills as well.

The importance of lighting, placement and shadows became apparent when photographing the carefully chosen croissant. A new and welcomed experience was capturing the different perspectives of the croissant while using a photo stage. I had the pleasure of using the basement studio in the MSD building as well as setting up my own at home for touch-ups.

Hand drawing the annotations as well as tracing, shading, and rendering the croissant itself was the most time-inducing part of the assignment. As it should have. It was in this space that I found enjoyment in using different drawing materials such as different levels of pencils, fine liners, an abundant amount of tracing paper, set squares, protractors, and my drawing board.

Although time-consuming, it feels so rewarding to see the transformation of the work in this module.
